#2 LSUS Overpowers USAO in Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas – Tuesday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (24-15, 10-5 SAC) suffered a tough12-6 loss on the road against No. 2 ranked Louisiana State University Shreveport (31-6, 18-3 RRAC).

With the pair of wins, the Drovers are now 2-2 all-time against the Pilots. 

The Drovers got off to an explosive start as Gabriel Arroyo blasted a solo-homerun in the top of the first inning. However, the lead was short lived as LSUS scored a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first.

The Pilots rallied for five runs in the bottom of the third inning to extend their lead to 7-1. The Drovers responded with three runs in the top of the fourth inning, followed by one more run for LSUS in the bottom of the fourth.

LSUS extended the lead to 11-4 with a trio of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. 

Science & Arts scored their final two runs in the top of the sixth inning and the Pilots scored their final run in the bottom of the seventh.

LSUS strung together 17 hits to overpower USAO in the neutral site game. 

Kaden Alexander got the start on the mound and pitched the opening 2.1 innings. Nolan Gagnon relieved Alexander for the next inning, followed by Brian Ereu pitching the next 0.2 innings.

Claudio Rodriguez delivered a pair of scoreless innings and Boone Lasater worked the final 2.0 innings.

As a team, the Drovers produced six hits, and Gavin Machado led the way with a 2-4 performance which included a double, a run scored, and two runs batted in.

Gabriel Arroyo and Gunnar Hansen each blasted a homerun, while Christopher Martinez and Will Hoch each singled. 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will return to Bill Smith Ballpark for their final home-series of the regular season as they host a three-game series against Wayland Baptist University.

On Friday, April 14, USAO will be hosting Faculty and Staff Appreciation Night as the Drovers host a double-header beginning at 4:00 PM, followed by a 6:30 PM start time in game two. All Science & Arts faculty and staff get free entry to the games and will be recognized for their contributions to the university.

The three-game series will conclude on Saturday, April 15 and the Drovers will be celebrating their senior class with their annual Senior Day ceremony following the game. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 PM at Bill Smith Ballpark.
