Season Comes to a Close for USAO in Opening Round Semifinal

LEWISTON, Idaho – Wednesday afternoon, the No. 2 seed University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (35-19, 17-7 SAC) had their season come to a close with a tough 10-4 loss against No. 3 seed Concordia University (48-9, 26-5 WHAC). 

 

Concordia got off to a hot start and pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning, followed by the Drovers responding with one run in the top of the second inning. 

The Cardinals extended their lead to 5-1 with a trio of runs in the bottom of the third inning.

Both teams scored once in the fourth inning, and USAO cut their deficit to 6-4 with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning. Concordia extended their lead with one run in the bottom of the fifth inning, followed by one more in the sixth. The Cardinals scored the final two runs of the game in the bottom of the eighth inning. 

 

At the conclusion of the contest the Drovers had recorded nine hits, while the Cardinals produced 11.

 

Kaden Alexander suffered the loss on the mound for USAO. Alexander surrendered five earned runs in 3.1 innings, and he struck out three batters. Lasater relieved Alexander for the next 2.2 innings and allowed two runs on four hits. Hagen Earls delivered a scoreless inning, prior to Alden Norquist surrendering two runs in the final inning of work.

 

Offensively, USAO was led by Nick Fleckenstein's three-hit performance, as he concluded 3-5 with a run scored. 

Gage Gaunt blasted a pair of doubles as he concluded 2-4 with a run scored and a run batted in. Christopher Martinez, Antonio Hrynkiw, and Ben Lawson each singled and drove in a run, while Peyton McDowall singled and scored twice.
