Late Rally Falls Short at MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Friday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (10-6, 0-1 SAC) opened a three-game series with a 4-3 loss on the road at Mid-America Christian University (10-5, 1-0 SAC).

 

After the game opened with three scoreless innings, the Evangels took the first lead, with a solo-homerun in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Drovers quickly responded and tied the score at 1-1 with a run in the top of the fifth inning, on Devin Alvarez's RBI-double to right field. 

The score remained 1-1 until the bottom of the seventh when MACU struck for a trio of runs.

USAO rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the ninth but were unable to push across the tying run before the final out was recorded.

 

Jared Adams got the start on the mound for USAO and delivered 6.1 solid innings of work, allowing two earned runs on four hits, and he struck out seven batters. Tristan Perry relieved Adams for the final two outs in the seventh. Rob Schmidt pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

 

As a team, the Drovers compiled eight hits and reached on one fielding error, while the Evangels reached the bases on six hits, one of which left the yard.

 

Ben Lawson led the USAO offense with a 2-4 performance, which included two doubles and a run scored. Devin Alvarez went 1-3 with a double and a run batted in, and Will Hoch drove in a run in his only at bat of the game. Gage Ninness singled and drove in a run. Peyton McDowall and Ian Ortiz each doubled, while Ben Bach and Gunnar Hansen each singled.  

 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers and Evangels will wrap up the series with a double-header on Saturday, March 2. First pitch of the twin-bill is scheduled for 12:00 PM CT in Oklahoma City.
