Drovers Suffer First Road Loss at #13 LSUS

SHREVEPORT, La. - Friday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (1-2, 0-0 SAC) hit the road for the first time this season and was dealt a 99-81 loss at No. 13 ranked LSU Shreveport (3-1, 0-0 RRAC).

 

The Drovers got off to a hot start and held a 16-15 with just under 13 minutes to play in the first half. The teams continued to trade buckets, and the score was knotted at 26-26 with seven minutes to go. However, the Pilots would get hot late in the half and closed on a 21-11 run to take a 47-37 lead into the break.

 

Following halftime, LSUS remained in full control and used a 28-15 run to hold a 75-52 advantage midway through the second half. The Pilots continued to score at a high efficiency and were able to hold off the Drovers down the stretch.

 

USAO's offense closed the game shooting 31-61 (.508) from the field, 7-22 (.318) from beyond the arc, and 12-17 (.706) from the free-throw line. In comparison, LSUS shot 38-62 (.613) from the field, 12-27 (.444) from deep, and 11-17 (.647) from the charity stripe. 

The Drovers scored 44 points in the paint and hauled in 34 rebounds. In comparison, the Pilots scored 42 points in the paint and grabbed 25 rebounds. 

USAO committed 14 turnovers, which led to 11 points for LSUS. Meanwhile, the Pilots fumbled the ball 11 times, resulting in 12 points for the Drovers.

USAO was whistled for 13 fouls, while LSUS was called for 12 violations.

 

Four different Drovers scored in double figures, led by Ryein Kennedy with 17 points in 21 minutes off the bench. Manny Gatkek added 16 points, six rebounds, and a pair of assists. Cade Allen contributed 14 points and three assists, followed by Mohand Ammad with 13 points and six rebounds. 

Jaden Harrell recorded nine points, eight rebounds and six assists. Lendy Holmes added six points, and Tyler Cauley finished with four points and five rebounds. Tatum Ridge scored two points.

The Drovers return home to open conference play against Southwestern Christian University on Thursday, November 14. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:45 PM CT inside Drover Fieldhouse.
