Late Goal Sinks USAO in Season Opener

CHICKASHA, Okla. – On Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (0-1, 0-0 SAC) opened the with a tough 2-1 defeat in the regular season opener against Louisiana State University Alexandria (1-0, 0-0 RRAC). Both teams battled hard through 105+ degree heat, but the Generals were able to outlast the Drovers with an early goal and a late goal.

 

LSUA wasted no time to take the lead, striking in the fourth minute of the contest, but neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the half.

Following halftime, the Drovers eagerly attacked the offensive third of the field and managed to bring the score even with Henry Lynch's first goal of the season in the 54th minute. Dani Suarez provided the assist on USAO's only goal of the day.

With less than six minutes remaining in the game, LSUA scored the go-ahead goal and held off the Drovers for the final minutes of regulation.

 

Despite trailing the Generals 2-1 on the scoreboard, the Drovers put eight shots on goal, while LSUA only put two on target. Additionally, USAO was whistled for 23 fouls, while LSUA was only called for eight violations.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will aim to bounce back on Tuesday, August 22, as they host a non-conference game against Bethel College (Kan.). Kick-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM CT at McLaughlin Field.
