CHICKASHA, Okla. – Tuesday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (1-1, 0-0 SAC) got back on track with a thrilling 6-1 victory against Bethel College (0-1, 0-0 KCAC). As both teams battled through 100+ degree temperatures, six different Drovers were able to muster enough strength to score a goal in the win.

 

After only 10 minutes of action, USAO was able to capture the early lead as Matija Malenovic began his big performance with his first goal of the season, assisted by Justin Croke and Callum Shepherd.

The score remained 1-0 until the 35th minute when Kento Takamura scored his first goal of the season, off an assist from Malenovic. 

With just over a minute remaining until halftime, Bethel was able to cut their deficit to 2-1 with a goal in the 43rd minute. 

 

Following halftime, the Drovers regained full control of the match, scoring four goals in the final 45 minutes of action. USAO's third goal of the game came only 54 seconds into the second half, scored by Justin Croke, off an assist from Malenovic. Less than two minutes later, Croke assisted on Zane Zhidov's first collegiate goal. 

Henry Lynch struck for his second goal of the season in the 52nd minute, courtesy of assists from Malenovic and Croke. Angelo Leendertse scored the game's final goal on a penalty-kick in the 60th minute.

 

At the conclusion of the match, USAO held a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal, and the Drovers were whistled for 10 fouls, while Bethel was only called for six violations. 

 

Angel Diaz was great for the Drovers between the pipes, stopping four of the five shots that came his way to earn the win. 

 

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers aim to stay hot as they return to action on Saturday, August 26, when they host a non-conference battle against LSU-Shreveport. Kick-off is scheduled for 11:00 AM CT.
