Malenovic and Croke Lead Drovers to Victory at SAGU
WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Tuesday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (5-7-3, 1-4-1 SAC) earned their first conference-victory of the season with an impressive 2-1 win at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (9-5, 3-3 SAC). The Drovers are now a perfect 6-0 against SAGU, dating back to October of 2018.
The Drovers got off to a terrific start in the opening minutes, creating several scoring opportunities before finally cashing in on Justin Croke's seventh goal of the season, coming in the 6th minute, off an assist from Leonardo Schneider.
However, the lead was short-lived as the Lions pulled the game even with a goal only four minutes later.
After an eventful opening 10 minutes of play, neither team was able to find the back of the net for the remainder of the first half and took a 1-1 tie into halftime.
Following the break, neither team was able to break the tie until the 79th minute, when Matija Malenovic scored his seventh goal of the season, assisted by Justin Croke. The Drovers used strong defense to close out the victory in the final minutes of regulation.
As a team, USAO attempted eight shots, with four being on goal, while SAGU attempted eight shots, with five being on target. The Drovers were whistled for eight fouls, while the Lions committed four infractions.
Angel Diaz was stellar between the pipes for USAO, stopping four of the five shots that came his way.
