Shorthanded Drovers Suffer 1-0 Loss at LSUA

ALEXANDRIA, La. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (0-2, 0-0 SAC) was dealt a tough 1-0 loss at Louisiana State University Alexandria (2-0, 0-0 RRAC). 

 

The first half of Saturday's showdown was dominated by defense and physical play. Neither team managed to find the back of the net in the first 45 minute of the game, and there was a total of 20 foul calls. Furthermore, three yellow cards and one red card were issued. 

 

Following the break, the Drovers were issued another red card and were forced to play the final 26 minutes with only nine players on the field. USAO showed a ton of toughness in their ability to fight through adversity, but LSUA took the lead on an USAO own goal in the 80th minute. The Drovers were unable to strike for the equalizer in the final minutes of the contest. 

 

As a team, USAO was held to four shot attempts, with one being on goal, while LSUA attempted 18 shots, with five being on target. The Drovers were whistled for 18 fouls, while the Generals committed 15 infractions. In total, five yellow cards were distributed, in addition to two red cards in the physical match.

 

Angel Diaz got the start for USAO between the pipes and stopped four of the five shots he faced.

The Drovers return home for a matchup against Tabor College on Tuesday, August 27. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 PM CT at McLaughlin Field.
