Defense Shines as USAO Blanks #5 Bellevue

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (3-3-2, 0-0 SAC) delivered an exhilarating performance as they earned a 0-0 draw against No. 5 ranked Bellevue University (6-0-2, 0-0 GPAC).

After a slow start to the season, due to injuries, tough opponents, and otherwise, the Drovers have turned things around and are 3-1-1 in their last five games, with the lone loss and tie being against top five opponents in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 Poll (#1 MNU 1-0 L | #5 BU 0-0 T).

Despite neither team scoring a goal in the 90-minute contest, it was an incredibly exciting matchup, with both teams having several excellent scoring chances, as well as sensation goalkeeping for both squads.

As a team, USAO attempted 18 shots, with four being on goal, while Bellevue attempted 16 shots, seven of which were on target. The Drovers were whistled for 12 fouls, while the Bruins committed nine infractions. USAO attempted eight corner kicks and BU had three attempts out of the offensive corners.

Angel Diaz was perfect between the pipes for USAO, stopping all seven shots that came his way for his second shutout of the season. Diaz currently leads the Sooner Athletic Conference in saves (31) and ranks 3rdin save percentage (.795).

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will conclude the non-conference portion of their season on Saturday, September 21 as they host Randall University. Kick-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM CT at Mclaughlin Field.
