Drovers Improve to 7-0 All-Time Against the Lions

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (4-3-2, 1-0 SAC) opened conference play, and extended their unbeaten streak with a 4-0 shutout victory against Nelson University (5-1-4, 0-1 SAC). USAO is 3-0-1 in their last four games, and they improve to 3-0-2 at home this season. 

With the win, the Drovers have emerged victorious in all seven matchups against the Lions, dating back to October of 2018. 

The Drovers were in full control of the conference opener but were unable to find the back of the net until the 44^th minute, when Dani Suarez scored off an assist from Fabian Romero. 

Following halftime, USAO quickly extended the lead with Callum Shepherd's third goal of the season, assisted by Ewout Groeneveld in the 46^th minute. Suarez would then score his second of the game in the 60^th minute, off an assist from Henry Lynch. Ewout Groeneveld struck for his first collegiate goal in the 62^ndminute, assisted by Romero. 

As a team, USAO attempted 20 shots, with nine being on goal, while Nelson attempted only three shots, two of which were on target. The Drovers were whistled for eight fouls, while the Lions committed six infractions. USAO attempted eight corner kicks and NU had one attempt out of the offensive corners.

Angel Diaz was perfect between the pipes for USAO, stopping both shots that came his way for his third shutout of the season. Diaz ranks second in the Sooner Athletic Conference in saves (33) and save percentage (.805). He also ranks fourth in goals against average (0.99) surrendering less than one goal per game.

The Drovers will return to McLaughlin Field on Tuesday, October 1 as they host a highly anticipated double-header against MACU. The women's game is scheduled to kick-off at 5:00 PM CT, followed by the men's game at 7:30 PM CT.
