Drovers Remain Unbeaten at Home With a 2-2 Tie Against #12 MACU

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Tuesday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (4-3-3, 1-0-1 SAC) preserved a 2-2 tie against No. 12 ranked Mid-America Christian University (6-1-3, 1-0-1 SAC). The rivals have now played to a draw in each of their last three regular season meetings. USAO now owns an 11-8-5 advantage in the all-time series, which dates to Sept. 2008.

 

The Drovers are now 3-0-2 in their last five games overall, and they remain unbeaten at home this season (3-0-3). 

 

On Tuesday, the Drovers got off to a hot start, taking an early 1-0 lead as Leonardo Schneider scored his first goal of the season, assisted by Callum Shepherd. USAO then extended their lead to 2-0 as Darko Borisavljevic tallied his fourth goal of the season, assisted by Dani Suarez. The Drovers took a 2-0 advantage into halftime. 

 

Following the break, the Evangels looked like a completely different team and began to control the pace of the game. MACU trimmed their deficit to 2-1 with a goal in the 52nd minute. USAO would then go down shorthanded in the 68th minute as Stijn Iding received his second yellow card of the game.  With the one-man advantage, the Evangels struck for the equalizer in the 74th minute.

The final 15 minute of the contest were frantic but neither team was able to strike for the game-winner before the final buzzer. 

 

As a team, USAO attempted six shots, with three being on goal, while MACU attempted 14 shots, eight of which were on target. The Drovers were whistled for 15 fouls, while the Evangels committed 10 infractions. Additionally, both teams were issued six yellow cards, and USAO was dealt the one red card. USAO attempted two corner kicks and MACU had seven attempts out of the offensive corners.

 

Angel Diaz was solid between the pipes for USAO, stopping six of the eight shots that came his way. Diaz ranks first in the Sooner Athletic Conference in saves (39) and second in save percentage (.796).

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will now hit the road for a double-header at John Brown University on Saturday, October 5. The women's game is scheduled to kick-off at 12:00 PM CT, followed by the men's game at 2:00 PM CT.
