#2 USAO Extends Win-Streak to 10 Prior to Weather Moving Remainder of Series to Chickasha

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Friday afternoon, the No. 2 ranked University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (14-2, 5-0 SAC) extended their win-streak to 10 with a 10-2 victory on the road at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (7-12, 1-4 SAC). During USAO's current 10-game win-streak, they have outscored opponents 85-12.

USAO has dominated the all-time series against SAGU, and the Drovers are now 41-0 against the Lions since the start of the 2014 season.

The conference foes were scheduled to play a four-game series at SAGU, but rain and lightning postponed game two of the series in the bottom of the third inning. The series will now be moved to Chickasha on Monday, March 11 and the teams will finish game two, followed by a double-header to wrap up the series. Despite the games being moved to Bill Smith Ballpark, the Lions will remain as the home team on the scoreboard for the remainder of the series.

-GAME 1-

After a scoreless first inning, the Drovers took a commanding lead with six runs in the top of the second inning. USAO extended the lead to 8-0 with Macenzie Ruth's first career homerun in the top of the third inning.

SAGU trimmed the deficit to 8-2 with a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fourth. However, the Drovers answered with a pair runs and stretched the lead to 10-2 in the top of the fifth, thanks to Malea McMurtrey's 2-RBI double to left-center. Abi Gregory shut down the Lion offense in the bottom of the fifth and ended the game early due to the "mercy rule".

Sophie Williams got the start in the circle for USAO and improved her record to 10-1. Williams pitched the opening 2.0 innings and struck out five of the six batters she faced. Abi Gregory relieved Williams in the third and went 3.0 innings, allowing two runs on one hit, and she struck out six batters.

As a team, USAO reached the bases on 14 hits, and they drew three walks. The Lions had only one hit, along with one walk.

USAO's offense was led by a three-hit performance from Macenzie Ruth, going 3-4 with a homerun, three runs scored, and a pair of runs batted in. Malea McMurtrey contributed a 2-3 performance which included a double, one run scored, and three runs batted in. Sophie Williams helped her own cause and went 2-2 with a run scored and two RBIs. Leighanne Eaton concluded 2-3 with a run batted in, while Jordan Ramsay went 2-3 with a pair of runs scored. Taygan Graham finished 2-2 with a walk, a run scored, and a run batted in. Abi Gregory went 1-2 at the plate.

-GAME 2-

After the game opened with a scoreless first inning, USAO brought in four runs in the top of the second inning, highlighted by Jadyn Goucher's fourth homerun of the season. SAGU managed to cut their deficit in half with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second inning.

After two and a half innings, the game was postponed due to the weather, and will be resumed on Monday in the bottom of the third inning with USAO holding a 4-2 lead.

WHAT'S NEXT?

No. 2 ranked USAO and SAGU will resume the series on Monday, March 11 at Bill Smith Ballpark in Chickasha, Okla. Game two will resume in the bottom of the third inning at 2:00 PM CT, followed by games three and four of the series.
