USAO Softball Sets Program Record with Five NAIA All-American Selections

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Tuesday morning, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced their annual softball awards, and the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma set a new program record with FIVE players earning All-American honors. In the prestigious history of USAO Softball, 29 players have achieved All-American status, including 22 over the last seven seasons.

 

FIRST TEAM NAIA ALL-AMERICA: (4 PLAYERS)

SOPHIE WILLIAMS continued the line of dominant Drover pitchers, extending the streak to eight years in a row that USAO has been the home of the SAC Pitcher of the Year. Williams earned the award in each of the last three seasons, following a five-year reign by Emily Cerny. In total, a Drover has claimed the SAC's top honor for a pitcher on 11 different occasions in program history. 

This season, Williams produced an incredible 27-5 record, along with a 1.42 earned run average and 213 strikeouts in 202.1 innings of work. In 2025, she has earned five of her 16 career SAC Pitcher of the Week awards, in addition to one of her four NAIA Pitcher of the Week honors. The Drovers ace led the Sooner Athletic Conference in wins, earned run average, and strikeouts.

In her career, Williams owns a 98-24 record and a 1.35 ERA with 942 strikeouts in 773.1 innings of work. She has tossed 40 shutouts, five no-hitters, and seven perfect games since the start of the 2022 season, which is currently tied for the NAIA record for the most perfect performances in a career. In total, the decorated hurler has earned four NAIA All-American selections, four First Team All-SAC nods, three SAC Pitcher of the Year awards, and 16 SAC Pitcher of the Week awards.

 

 

MALEA MCMURTREY claims her third consecutive All-American selection after producing an incredible .462 batting average that included 79 hits, a pair of doubles, five triples, a home run, 64 runs scored, 30 runs batted in, and 33 stolen bases. She set a new single-season program record for batting average and climbed to second in the record book in runs scored and triples.

In her three years at USAO, McMurtrey owns a .410 batting average with 213 hits, 13 doubles, 11 triples, a longball, 176 runs scored, 97 runs batted in, and 96 stolen bases. In the program record book, McMurtrey owns the program record for runs scored in a career, as well as ranking third in batting average, triples, and stolen bases.

She also continued to prove that she is arguably the best shortstop in the country, claiming her third consecutive SAC Gold Glove award. This season, she has compiled a .982 fielding percentage in 171 total chances. 

 

 

 

 

KINZIE WILLIAMS earned her first selection on the First Team All-America after recording a remarkable .448 batting average with 90 hits, seven doubles, four triples, a home run, 54 runs scored, 38 runs batted in, and 36 stolen bases. She is the first player in program history to reach 90 hits in a season, as well as tallied the fifth most stolen bases and the fifth best batting average. 

In her two years at USAO, the sophomore has appeared in 101 games and has produced a .453 batting average with 115 hits, 10 doubles, four triples, a homer, 85 runs scored, 44 RBIs, and she has stolen 45 bases. 

 

 

SIERRA SELFRIDGE was selected as an All-American for the second season in a row, following her fourth consecutive selection to the first team All-SAC. Selfridge tallied a .435 batting average with 81 hits, 19 doubles, 18 home runs, 38 runs scored, and a new program record of 87 runs batted in. Her 18 homers also established a new program record for most longballs in a season.

She ranked second in the NAIA in runs batted in (87), as well as fourth in home runs (18), and was selected as the SAC Player of the Week on two occasions.

In her historic career at USAO, Selfridge has appeared in 232 games, recording a .395 batting average with 276 hits, 64 doubles, eight triples, 36 home runs, 150 runs scored, 228 runs batted in, and 27 stolen bases. She is USAO's career leader in doubles and runs batted in, while ranking second in hits and games played, third in at bats and home runs, and fourth in runs scored. 

 

 

SECOND TEAM NAIA ALL-AMERICA: (1 PLAYER)

LEIGHANNE EATON claims her first All-American honor after producing a .350 batting average with 56 hits, 11 doubles, seven home runs, 33 runs scored, and 47 runs batted in. She was also nearly perfect defensively as USAO's starting catcher. Eaton produced a .997 fielding percentage on 337 total chances. In the first week of the season, Eaton was awarded as the SAC Player of the Week, and she also was awarded her second consecutive First Team All-SAC selection.

In her two years as a Drover, the Chickasha native owns a .338 career batting average that includes 113 hits, 30 doubles, 17 homers, 73 runs scored, and 93 runs batted in.
