Drovers Collect Huge Victory on the Road at MACU

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. – Saturday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (6-4, 1-1 SAC) got back on track with a very important 3-2 victory at Mid-America Christian University (8-2, 1-1 SAC). With the win, the Drovers have now won 19 of the last 21 matchups against their rival since 2008.

 Saturday's game was a defensive battle for majority of the first half, but MACU managed to squeak one by on a free-kick goal in the 40^th minute. The Drovers were unable to answer in the final minute of the half and went into halftime trailing 1-0.

Following the break, the Drovers quickly evened the score on Alicia Rey's 14^th goal of the season in the 47^thminute. Laura Barrantes immediately gave USAO the lead as she put away a rebound for her third goal of the season, coming in the 49^th minute. USAO increased the lead to 3-1 with Kyleigh Fort's first goal of the season in the 75^th minute. Fort's strike was assisted by Caitlin Worthington. However, the Evangels cut the deficit to 3-2 as they capitalized on a mistake in the box in the 84^th minute. The Drovers held off the Evangels in the closing minutes of the contest to wrap up the important victory.

As a team, USAO attempted 17 shots, with eight being on goal, while MACU attempted 13 shots, with five being on target. The Drovers were whistled for nine fouls, while the Evangels committed 10 violations.

Caitlin Bishop got the start for USAO between the pipes and earned her fifth win of the season as she stopped three of the five shots that she faced.

The Drovers will be back in action at home on Tuesday, October 3 as they host a showdown against Oklahoma City University. Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 PM CT at McLaughlin Field.
