Drovers Deliver Shutout for Ninth Victory in a Row Against SCU

CHICKASHA, Okla. – Saturday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (7-5, 2-2 SAC) got back on track with a 3-0 shutout victory against Southwestern Christian University (3-7-1, 0-3-1 SAC). With the win, the Drovers have defeated the Eagles in nine consecutive matchups, dating back to September of 2017. Overall, USAO is now 14-1 against SCU all-time. 

 The Drovers wasted no time to take the lead as Alicia Rey scored her 15^th goal of the season in the opening minute of the game, assisted by Caitlin Worthington. Despite several great scoring chances, neither team was able to score for the remainder of the half and the Drovers took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Following the break, the Drovers remained with a one-goal advantage until the 63^rd minute when Laura Barrantes scored her fourth goal of the season on a penalty-kick to extend the lead to 2-0. The Drovers stretched the lead to 3-0 on Luna Knoester's first goal of the season, assisted by Alicia Rey in the 70^thminute of play.

The Drovers had several scoring chances in the final several minutes of the game, but neither team was able to strike again.

Ashlyn Lonberg got the start for USAO between the pipes and recorded her second shutout of the season as she made two saves to improve her record to 2-0.

As a team, USAO attempted 25 shots, with 16 being on goal, while SCU attempted four shots, with two being on target. The Drovers were whistled for seven fouls, while the Eagles committed 10 infractions.

The Drovers will return to McLaughlin Field on Saturday, October 14 as they host Wayland Baptist University. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 PM CT.
