Rey Scores Twice to Lead USAO to Victory on the Road at SAGU

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – Tuesday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (9-5, 4-2 SAC) stayed hot as they earned their fourth win in the last five games with a 2-1 performance on the road at Southwestern Assemblies of God University (8-4-1, 4-2 SAC). With the win, the Drovers have defeated the Lions in all seven (7-0) matchups in the all-time series, dating back to September of 2018. In total, USAO has outscored SAGU 39-2 in those games.  

The Drovers wasted no time taking the lead, as Alicia Rey struck for her 18^th goal of the season, assisted by Ilse de Jong in the 4^th minute of action. Despite capturing early momentum USAO was unable to extend their lead in the first half and SAGU managed to tie the score at 1-1 with a goal just before halftime, in the 40^th minute. 

Following the break, USAO regained the lead in the 54^th minute as Alicia Rey scored her second of the game and 19^th of the season, off an assist from Dagbjort Gudmunsdottir. The Drovers played stellar defense for the remainder of the contest to wrap up the 2-1 victory.

As a team, USAO attempted six shots, with four being on goal, while SAGU attempted five shots, with four being on target. The Drovers were whistled for three fouls, while the Lions committed seven infractions. 

Ashlyn Lonberg got the start for USAO between the pipes and made three saves to improve her record to 4-0 this season.

Alicia Rey currently ranks No. 4 in the NAIA and No. 2 in the SAC in goals scored (19), while ranking No. 4 in points (44) in the NAIA and No. 2 in the SAC.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will be back in action at home on Saturday, October 21 as they host Texas Wesleyan University. The Drovers will also be celebrating their senior class as they host their annual Senior Day event. The women are scheduled to kick-off at 1:00 PM CT, followed by the men at 3:30 PM.
