Rey’s Hat-Trick Leads USAO to Fifth Win in a Row

MCPHERSON, Kan. – Tuesday evening, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (11-5, 6-2 SAC) extended their win-streak to five with a dominant 7-1 victory at Central Christian College (1-13-1, 1-7 SAC). The Drovers are now 9-0 against the Tigers all-time, dating back to 2017. Additionally, USAO has outscored CCC by a 49-9 margin in those matchups.

 

The Drovers wasted no time to take the lead, scoring only three minutes into the contest on Ilse de Jong's second goal of the season, assisted by Avery Walker. In the 12th minute, Walker cashed in on her third goal of the season, with an assist from Daniela Salinas. Less than a minute later, Dagbjort Gudmunsdottir found the back of the net for her fifth goal of the season, assisted by Alicia Rey. Daniela Salinas stretched USAO's lead to 4-0 with her fourth goal of the season, coming in the 17th minute of action. USAO scored their final goal of the first half as Alicia Rey connected for her first goal of the day in the 33rd minute. Central Christian managed to score their only goal of the day in the 36th minute and USAO took a 5-1 lead into halftime. 

 

Following the break, the Drovers continued to add to their lead with Alicia Rey's second goal of the game in the 50th minute. Rey completed the hat-trick and extended the lead to 7-1 with her 23rd goal of the season in the 57th minute, assisted by Gudmunsdottir.

 

As a team, USAO attempted 35 shots, with 18 being on goal, while Central Christian attempted seven shots, with five being on target. The Drovers were whistled for two fouls, while the Tigers committed four infractions. 

 

Ashlyn Lonberg got the start for USAO between the pipes and made four saves to improve her record to 6-0 this season.

 

Alicia Rey currently ranks No. 2 in the NAIA and No. 1 in the SAC in goals scored (23), while ranking No. 3 in points (56) in the NAIA and No. 1 in the SAC. Furthermore, she leads the SAC in assists (10), and that number ranks 12th in the NAIA.

 

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will return to the pitch for their final regular season game on Saturday, October 28 as they travel to Goodwell, Okla. for a 12:00 PM CT kick-off at OPSU. 

 

With one game remaining in the regular season, the Drovers sit in a third place and the top eight teams in the conference will qualify for the SAC Tournament. The top four seeds will earn a bid to host for the opening round of the tournament, and the highest seed will host for the remainder of the way.
