Drovers Overpower the Eagles in Bethany

BETHANY, Okla. – Saturday afternoon, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (4-2, 1-1 SAC) snapped a two-match skid with a dominant 3-0 triumph at Southwestern Christian University (2-5, 0-2 SAC).

USAO got off to a terrific start, holding a 13-4 lead midway through the opening set, and went on to cruise to a 25-13 win. The Drovers continued to keep the momentum going with a 25-15 victory in the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match. USAO jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the third set and cruised to a 25-14 win to complete the sweep.

As a team, USAO was extremely efficient and effective on offense, putting away 40 kills on a .345 attack percentage. In comparison, SCU only produced 14 kills on a -.035 clip. The Drovers were tremendous on defense, recording 48 digs and 14 total blocks, while the Eagles only had 29 digs and five total blocks. 

The powerful offensive attack was led by Victoria Southerland's 10 kills, in addition to nine digs on defense. Isaline Jacqucemyn contributed eight kills on an impressive .500 attack percentage. Samantha Perez was extremely efficient, producing seven kills on an incredible .875 attack percentage, and she also added six total blocks. 

Gabrielle Gunnoe added five kills on a .714 attack percentage, and Bruna Duarte added five kills along with four block assists. Giselle Calderon chipped in four kills and a pair of blocks. 

Kalaya Pierce finished with a match-high in assists with 21, followed by Madison Garcia with 14. 

Soleil Trejo anchored the defense with a match-high of 13 digs, and a match-high of five aces.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Drovers will now hit the road for a pair of matches against ranked opponents in Texas. USAO will begin the trip against No. 20 ranked Texas Wesleyan University on Thursday, September 7 in Fort Worth, Texas at 6:00 PM CT. They will then head to Waxahachie for a showdown at No. 24 ranked SAGU at 1:00 PM CT on Saturday, September 9.
