Drovers Battle Hard but Fall in Three at College of the Ozarks

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Friday night, the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma (6-8, 2-3 SAC) kept the scores close, but ultimately fell in three sets at College of the Ozarks (6-5, 2-4 SAC). 

The Drovers opened the match on a solid run and held a 13-9 advantage midway through the first set. However, the Bobcats closed the set strong and edged the Drovers for a 26-24 victory. The second set was tightly contested, but College of the Ozarks came away with a 25-23 victory. The third set was another close one, with the Bobcats wrapping up the match with a 25-21 win.

As a team, the Drover offense compiled an incredible .117 attack percentage with 32 kills, while the Bobcats recorded a .162 attack percentage and 47 kills. USAO's setters dished out a total of 32 assists, meanwhile the defense produced 50 digs and three total blocks. College of the Ozarks produced 43 assists, 53 digs, and seven total blocks. Additionally, USAO scored on two service aces, while Ozarks tallied six aces.  

USAO's offense was led by a pair of seven-kill performances from Alacia Ledoux and Giselle Calderon. Jaedyn Adams-Brown tallied six kills, followed by Jaliyah Cox with four. Josie Joyce distributed a team-high of 16 assists, in addition to six digs. Bailey Makahununiu dished out 13 assists, along with seven digs. 

Yaiza Larrauri anchored the Drover defense with 12 digs and Brynlee Birney added seven digs.

The Drovers will return to action tomorrow afternoon (Sept. 20) at John Brown. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 PM CT in Siloam Springs Ark.
