Cox and Birney Haul in SAC Awards After Historic Season

OKLAHOMA CITY – Okla. – On Wednesday afternoon, the Sooner Athletic Conference announced their postseason awards for volleyball and the Drovers had two players recognized for their excellent performances this season. Jaliyah Cox was recognized as the conference's Newcomer of the Year and a second team All-SAC selection, while Brynlee Birney was named the Freshman of the Year and earned an honorable mention All-SAC selection. 

 

JALIYAH COX – Newcomer of the Year & Second Team All-SAC

Jaliyah Cox delivered a historic season in her first year as a Drover, recording a program record of 306 kills. Defensively, she provided 112 digs, 28 block assists, and four solo blocks. She also recorded three double-doubles.

In the Drovers match at OPSU on November 9, Cox was one kill shy of tying the program record for single-game kills with 22. 

 

BRYNLEE BIRNEY – Freshman of the Year & Honorable Mention All-SAC

Brynlee Birney made an immediate impact as a freshman, appearing in 30 matches and established a new program record with 505 digs. Additionally, she dished out 98 assists and tallied 26 service aces. Birney set a program record with 38 digs in a win against OPSU on October 4.

She ranks fourth in the conference in digs (505) and digs per set (4.86).
